Your success is your responsibility

All people are self-made, but only the wealthy want to admit it. A simple, yet poignant observation.

There is a very interesting human fallacy that we all seem to have at some level. When great things happen to us, we take the credit. Yet, when bad things happen, we place the blame on someone or something else. When we are winners, we are victorious. When we are losers, we are victims. When something fortuitous happens, it’s because of good luck. Yet, we are victims of bad luck when the unfortunate occurs.

If you want to succeed in life, you must take responsibility for everything that happens. This involves taking responsibility for the good, the bad and the things things that are beyond your control. This is a bitter pill to swallow for most. Especially, when you come to the realization that every decision you have made in your life has brought you to where you are now. If you are living your best life, it’s because of you. If you are struggling and unhappy, it’s because of you.

Once you realize that you are the captain of your own ship, you can take responsibility to chart your future course. Yes, bad things will still happen. But rather than being a victim, you will be able to assess your situation, inspect your decisions, and learn from your mistakes. This will allow you to keep moving forward and take responsibility for everything in your life. You will be able to pat yourself on the back and take pride for your success, while giving yourself permission to learn from your failure.

Life’s journey is filled with success and failure along the way, and you must consistently adjust your path. Remember, if you are not where you want to be in life, you drove there. But, once you take the responsibility for that, you can turn your life around and drive somewhere else.
